What is HAProxy?

HAProxy is a free, very reliable, and fast, open source reverse-proxy, providing load balancing and proxying for TCP and HTTP applications.

It is extremely well suited for high-traffic websites, and has become the preferred open source load balancer, now shipped with most mainstream Linux distributions, and is often deployed by default in the cloud.
